Before You Start
Coursing helps coordinate service flow between your front-of-house and kitchen teams, improving the guest experience and reducing kitchen overwhelm.
Note:
- Coursing is optional and must be activated in Selio Manager (enable Coursing + Hold/Fire options).
- Hold/Fire works only with the Selio KDS system.
Set up Coursing via:
- Selio Manager (for POS) link
- Selio Manager – KDS (for KDS devices) link
Using Coursing in Selio for Restaurants #
- Select the table you want to take an order for.
- Tap Courses to activate the option.
- Add items to their designated course:
- Straight: Beverages are auto-assigned here.
- Course 1, Course 2, Dessert: Tap a course before adding items to it.
- Rearrange items between courses:
Before sending the order, you can move items to a different course.
Using Hold/Fire (when enabled) #
- Course 1: Automatically set to Fire (sends to kitchen immediately).
- Later courses: Set to Hold by default, but can be manually switched to Fire.
When you’re ready, tap Send to submit the entire order to the kitchen.
Adding Extra Courses After Sending #
- Open the table again.
- Tap Add Courses at the bottom of the sent items list.
- Choose additional courses from the pop-up window.
- Assign new items to the new courses.
💡 Best Practices:
- Pre-set your courses in Selio Manager before service starts (e.g., Starter, Main, Dessert).
- Train staff to use Hold/Fire for smooth service pacing, especially during peak hours.
- Use Straight for drinks and bar items that don’t follow the kitchen’s coursing logic.
- Encourage servers to review courses before sending to avoid mistakes (e.g., appetizers marked as mains).
- Communicate with the kitchen team when introducing new coursing workflows, especially if combined with Selio KDS.
