Replace or Reassign a Device

Summary

Replace or reassign a device cleanly so the restaurant can recover quickly from hardware changes without creating confusion in live operations.

Before you begin

  • Confirm whether the device is being replaced permanently or reassigned temporarily
  • Know which business, location, or station the new device should take over
  • Make sure the replacement device is ready physically and technically
  • Confirm the team knows when the old device should stop being used

Steps

  1. Identify the device that is being replaced or reassigned.
  2. Prepare the new or reassigned device for the correct operational role.
  3. Sign in or connect it to the correct Selio flow.
  4. Confirm the new device shows the correct business, location, or station.
  5. Run a controlled functional test on the replacement device.
  6. Remove the old device from active operational use.
  7. Confirm the team now uses only the correct active device.

Troubleshooting

  • Both old and new devices stay active at the same time: Clarify which one is live and remove ambiguity immediately.
  • The replacement device works technically but is assigned to the wrong role: Recheck business, location, station, or payment context before using it.
  • The team keeps going back to the old device out of habit: Remove or isolate it from live service.
  • A replacement happens during rush without validation: Always run a quick live test before trusting the new device fully.
