Route Orders to the Right KDS Station

Summary

Set up order routing correctly so each item appears on the right KDS screen and the kitchen team only sees the work that belongs to them.

Before you begin

  • Make sure prep stations already exist
  • Confirm products, categories, or order groups are already configured
  • Know exactly how kitchen work should be divided
  • Make sure you have access to routing or setup controls
  • Have at least one sample order available for testing

Steps

  1. Open the routing or station assignment setup area.
  2. Review the current routing logic.
  3. Select the items, categories, or order groups you want to route.
  4. Assign them to the correct prep station.
  5. Save the routing changes.
  6. Place a test order.
  7. Confirm the order appears on the correct KDS screen and does not appear where it should not.

Troubleshooting

  • Orders appear on the wrong station: Review item-to-station mapping carefully.
  • The same order appears on multiple screens: Check for overlapping routing rules.
  • Orders do not appear anywhere: Confirm the station exists, the screen is connected, and the routing was saved correctly.
  • Only some items arrive at the station: Review category and product mapping in detail.
  • Kitchen staff reports inconsistent ticket flow: Run controlled test orders before going live.
