Before you begin

  • Make sure courses are enabled in the ordering flow
  • Confirm the kitchen team understands the restaurant’s course sequence
  • Check that routed orders arrive correctly on the KDS screen
  • Use a location where course-based service is part of daily operations

Steps

  1. Open the order card that includes courses.
  2. Review how items are grouped by course on the KDS screen.
  3. Identify which course is currently active for preparation.
  4. Confirm the team starts only the work that should be in production now.
  5. Review upcoming courses without preparing them too early.
  6. Use the available KDS actions to move the course through the workflow.
  7. Confirm the order remains clear for both kitchen and service teams.

Troubleshooting

  • Courses do not appear in KDS: Check whether courses are enabled and being sent from the ordering flow.
  • Items are grouped incorrectly: Review course assignment at order entry.
  • Kitchen starts later courses too early: Align the team on course discipline before service begins.
  • The screen feels hard to read during multi-course service: Simplify station scope and train the team on where to focus first.
