Summary
Use the fixed KDS actions HOLD, FIRED, and DONE on orders or courses so cooks and waiters see the current production state.
Before you begin
- Confirm the KDS screen is connected and receives assigned tickets
- Confirm the team understands the action labels: HOLD, FIRED, DONE
- Know that these actions are available on all KDS screens
- Know that waiters and cooks can use these actions
- Do not rely on undo, correction, or audit behavior for these actions
Steps
- Open the order or course on the KDS screen.
- Use HOLD when work should wait.
- Use FIRED when production should start.
- Use DONE when the order or course is complete.
- Confirm the updated state is visible on the KDS screen.
- Confirm waiters are notified or the order state changes to done, depending on the workflow.
- If an action was tapped incorrectly, escalate operationally; do not assume an undo action exists.
Troubleshooting
- Staff use HOLD or FIRED inconsistently: Re-train the exact state sequence.
- DONE is tapped too early: Pause and coordinate outside the KDS action flow; no undo behavior is confirmed.
- The expected notification is not seen: Check device connection and whether the action changed the order state to done.
- A user cannot find the action: Confirm they are on a KDS screen where the order or course is visible.
